Reserve coffee, taro at heart

Cafe Taro is a New Haven coffeehouse for single-origin pour-overs, a taro latte made from root we steam every morning, and a bakery that runs on ube.

Steamed at six, poured all day

Every morning we peel and steam taro root, then mash it with coconut sugar and a pinch of salt. Folded through milk it tastes of vanilla, toasted rice and a little sweet potato. Nothing from a powder, nothing dyed.

The taro bar

  • Taro latte$6.75

The house signature: steamed taro and whole milk, over a ristretto or without. Hot or iced.

  • Taro cream cold brew$6.50

Cold brew under a lilac taro cold foam, finished with flaky salt.

  • Ube coconut latte$7.00

Ube halaya, coconut milk and espresso. The deepest purple thing we make.

  • Taro hojicha latte$6.75

Roasted green tea and taro, toasty and low in caffeine.

  • Black sesame taro latte$7.25

Toasted sesame paste swirled through the taro. Tastes like the best part of a mochi.

  • Brown butter ube latteWinter$7.50

Ube, browned butter and a little maple, for the cold months.
